What to Do and See in Cairo
For our Valley of the Kings trip, the first stop is the city of Cairo. There is so much to do and see in this historic city. The number one attraction of Cairo is the last of the world’s seven wonders. The Great Pyramid at Giza is the main selling point for tourists. You absolutely must see the pyramids. They stand on the edge of modern Cairo, on the Gisa Plateau. To see them above the city skyline is incredible, and the pyramid complex is on the west side of the Nile, roughly 13 km from the city’s center. You could also go inside the Great Pyramid to check out the narrow, steep passages that lead to chambers containing empty stone coffins. You could also check out the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It is an old-school museum containing the most special treasures. There are relics discovered in the tomb of King Tut, so if you’re a history buff this is a great spot to check out!
A Nile River Cruise
One other part of our Valley of the Kings trip is a Nile River cruise! The most obvious advantage of going on a Nile River cruise is the scenic cruising. Instead of cramming on a bus traveling down some old highways, you get to sit on a sundeck and watch the wildlife, jungle, and desert hills as you float by. The cruise will also stop occasionally, allowing you to sightsee.
