With Thanksgiving happening this week, the holiday season is now upon us. With the holiday season comes a significant uptick in travel plans for thousands of Americans every year. If you’re planning on traveling at all within the next few weeks, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before you leave, like busy airports, delays, and how many travelers will be on the go as well. Read on to learn how to prepare for holiday travel in 2023!
Domestic Holiday Travel is Cheaper Than Last Year
Surprisingly, airfare, holiday, and rental car rates in the United States are all down compared to last year’s holiday season. This is excellent news for anyone looking to travel soon. The bad news is that you will have to prepare to be interrogated by your family members who want to know what you’re doing with your life. At least you can now splurge on a nice bottle of wine!
Remember to Arrive Early
Expect traffic at more places than just the highway. Airports, especially popular ones, are scoped to be some of the busiest airports for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s a good idea to add an extra hour or two to your usual airport time. Or you could avoid this issue altogether by departing from a different hub entirely. Check the box for “add nearby airports” while you’re looking for flights to see all of your options close to you.
Be Smart About the Days You Travel
The date you leave for your trip really matters. If you can, try heading out for Thanksgiving early, at least a day or two before the actual holiday. While heading out for Christmas, consider traveling closer to the 25th of December. Believe it or not, Christmas Eve is the cheapest day to fly in the United States.
