The Most Unique Beaches in Europe

You can make your next beach getaway in Europe one to remember by exploring some of the most unique beaches on the continent.

Europe offers many different experiences that will suit any kind of traveler. And beach lovers especially have a lot of choices when it comes to exploring the shorelines around the continent. While there are resort towns much like the ones dotting the shorelines in America, there are also much more unique beaches out there too. With hidden lagoons, beautiful pink sand, monumental rock formations, and more, you can make your next beach getaway in Europe one to remember by exploring some of the most unique beaches on the continent. Here are some of our favorites!

Praia de Benagil, Portugal

Portugal is well-known for its beaches and beautiful weather, making it ideal for first-time and experienced beachgoers. However, one beach stands out – Benagil Beach, located on the southern coast. The beach is flanked by huge golden cliffs that offer protection from wind. The water is pristine blue, the sand is white, and the coastline is also home to several sea caves that are worth exploring.

Spiaggia Rosa, Italy

The Spiaggia Rosa, located on the Italian island of Budelli, is one of the few places on Earth to feature pink-hued sand. This sand is blended from a combination of fossils, crystals, coral, and more crushed and blended together over the years. However, you can’t actually spend a day at the beach here – the Italian government banned tourists from stepping foot on the beach in 1994 to preserve the sand. These days, you can still take day trips to the island on a charter boat and take photographs to share later!

Les Plages Étretat, France

Located in Normandy in the northern part of France, Étretat features pebbled beaches and clear blue water. But what really draws beach-lovers here are the grandiose white cliffs, which have been depicted in Impressionist paintings. Erosion over the millennia created arches and shapes that look incredible and will really bring home the power of nature.

Navagio Beach, Greece

While Greece is home to many famous beaches, special mention should be given to Navagio Beach. This beach is sometimes known as “Shipwreck Beach” owing to a famous shipwreck that occurred here in 1980. The rumor at the time was that the ship was smuggling contraband, making it a modern-day pirate story! The remains of the ship still rest at the bottom of the cove.
